I often find myself abandoned, in a land that is unknown to my traditional mind’s eye, unknown to the heritage of my mother, her parents, and grandparents before them. I am one of many black sheep, as the color of my skin differs from those around me, from those I call my peers, allies, and friends. I am an extension, as the mother tongue I spoke as a child has gradually morphed itself into a dissipating plague that seems inaudible in expression to my own very ears. I am an outcast, as I try to conform to a stereotype that is neither inclusive nor befitting of my race, gender, or sexual orientation. I was left astray, when I witnessed my own culture evaporate from my calloused fingertips, growing into a fog that blinded the path before me. My name is Hunish Parmar.
